It All Comes Down To This

Many would argue that this matchup is the best example as to why a playoff is needed in college football. I say this is exactly why there can never be a playoff. Forget about the money argument for a moment, having boosters travel to see multiple games over a short period (although that's one of the best one for continuing with the bowl setup). I tend to favor the one of "opinion". With any playoff system, there would be no doubt as to who the best is - without it, we fans of the college sport, have opinion, conjecture and mystery - those keep fueling the fire and passion of the college game.

Get ready for kickoff to decide the National Champion. LSU is favored by 4.5 points over OSU (for the purposes of our pool anyway, the actual line indicates heavy betting on the underdog as it has moved to 3.5). It's speed versus strength, Big Ten vs. SEC, Calculated Coaching vs. Crazyman. Neither team has played since before the Bears were mathematically eliminated from the post-season, everyone is well-rested and healthy. We'll know who wins 2nd and 3rd places in our pool in 3 1/2 hours or less.

First Half Update LSU leads 24-10, beating the spread by 9.5 points.

The Buckeyes looked like a team on a mission in the early going and the Tigers looked flat for the first two series of downs. Once the emotions subsided, LSU began to exert their will on offense, defense and with a blocked field goal, special teams. It will be interesting to see if OSU can make the necessary half-time adjustments and score 10 more points than LSU in the second half in order to cover.
